This is a reproduction of a mahogany Philadelphia side chair that is in the Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the State Department. The original of this chair was made by an unknown craftsman sometime during the mid 1760's.   This was a popular general design because there are many similar ones in existence.   The differences are minor variations in the foliage carvings. Another detail of this chair is the ornamental "pins" on either side of the crest rail joint A copy of a matching armchair can be found elsewhere in the "chairs" section.
This is my second version of this chair and it is much better than the first. My carving and finishing skills are better and it shows.
