Philadelphia Chippendale Arm Chair

This is a reproduction of a mahogany Philadelphia armchair that is in the Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the State Department. The original of this chair was made by an unknown craftsman sometime during the mid 1760's. Note that the volute is only carved on the inside face of each arm scroll. This is quite unusual. Another unusual detail is the ornamental "pins" on either side of the crest rail joint. A copy of a matching side chair can be found elsewhere in the "chairs" section.
