This chair is a mahogany reproduction of the Waln-Ryerss Family Queen Anne side chair.   Of the original set that numbered at least six, only four are known.   This chair is the pinnacle of the Queen Anne form.   It has been described as "the best American Queen Anne chair yet found."   In December 2003 one of the four originals sold at auction for $679,500.00.
Furthermore, this chair is a transition piece in that it has rococo style carving, typical of the Chippendale style, yet it has the distinctive Queen Anne form.   The construction details are also from the earlier Queen Anne period.   The splat in this chair matches very closely the splat of a Chippendale chair displayed elsewhere in the chair section.   The original dates from 1760.
