This chair is a walnut reproduction of an original that is one of a set of armchairs.   The original is important because it is part of the only known set of Queen Anne armchairs in existence.   The original set consisted of at least eight chairs of which six are known.   Two are at Winterthur, one at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the others are in private collections.   One sold at auction in 2006 for $2,256,600.   The originals date to 1755.
One of the more unique features are the arms attached to rounded stiles, that is the back legs.   This is rare from a design perspective and more difficult from a construction one.   The difficulty and rarity as well as the aesthetic beauty were a large part of what motivated me to want to build this chair.   Another interesting and unique feature is that the arm knuckle is tapered from inside to outside.   All of the embellishments are carved from the solid.
