This is a reproduction of a walnut Philadelphia Roundabout Chair.   This chair is from a private collection of the Richard Waln Meirs Family.   An almost identical chair is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.   The only difference between the Met chair and this one is the shape of the seat.   This chair has a more exaggerated curve in the seat than the Met version.   In his Blue Book of Philadelphia Furniture Horner describes this chair as "Perhaps the Finest Queen Anne Roundabout known."   This chair and the Met chair were made by Joseph Armitt between 1740 - 1747.
